The U.K standard for Professional Engineering Competence and Commitment (UK-SPEC issue 4, 2020) states that this is an obligation that “underpins the value of the professional titles of EngTech, IEng and CEng”. It has strengthened its statements about the obligations of engineers and their institutions in this area. They state
“Engineering Technicians, ICT Technicians, Incorporated Engineers and Chartered Engineers [must] make a commitment to maintaining their competence through CPD, and recording that development. The professional engineering institutions [must] undertake annual random samples of registrants’ CPD records and provide appropriate feedback. Recording of CPD undertaken will be mandatory for registered engineers and technicians no later than January 2019. Professionally active registrants who persistently do not respond to or engage with requests for CPD records from a Licensed Member risk removal from the Engineering Council Register.” [www.engc.org.uk/cpd accessed 25/02/2022].
