Work on dialectic argumentation (‘investigation of truth’) has developed over recent years, to the point where focussed effort is taking place within a dedicated working group of the Safety Critical Systems Club. This paper takes the opportunity of exploiting some of that work, seeking to raise the profile of dialectic argumentation within the Safety Community. It aims to outline the purpose of dialectic argumentation, how it has been used in the past and how the current work shows progression and promise for the future.
