Qualification of Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) computer-based de-vices is an ongoing and important challenge for nuclear licensees in the UK. International standards provide frameworks that are used for this, and these are adapted into specific guidance by most nuclear licensees. This paper introduces current practical experience with the above points, states lessons learned and out-lines open research questions.
