A new draft technical standard for memory safety is now available for comment. This technical standard aligns with hardware, eg CHERI, and software, eg Rust.
The draft memory safety technical specification has the potential to become a useable measure of assurance for regulators/authorities and their related safety, security and mission critical development projects. Note the specification sets levels of assurance which could be applied and are similar to assurance levels, eg DALs in DO-178C, SILs in 61508. This could enable gradual introduction of memory safety technologies and a useful tool for authorities requiring security and safety.
The draft ETSI Memory Safety Technical Specification is now available for review if you are not a member of ETSI. The draft is being shared to collect feedback from the widest possible range of interested parties both within ETSI membership and beyond.
Feedback can be provided to CyberSupport@etsi.org.
